Microinteractions are the subtle animations or feedback loops that guide users through a product. Though small, they play a huge role in shaping how users feel about an interface.
Examples of Microinteractions:
Loading Animations:
A spinning wheel is functional, but a playful animation (like Slack’s loading messages) adds personality.Button Feedback:
When a button changes color or vibrates upon being clicked, it reassures the user their action was registered.Notifications:
Subtle sound cues or badges keep users informed without being intrusive.
Why They Matter
Microinteractions reduce friction, provide clarity, and inject delight into the experience. As users, we may not notice them consciously, but we certainly feel their absence when they’re missing.
Great design is in the details, and microinteractions are proof of that.
